Cake-Topper

2 Holzspiesse
verschiedenes Maskingtape

Today I want to show you a blog which I absolutely love and which is quite known around here. It's the one from Fräulein Klein (which could be translated with Missy Little). Although it's written in German I hope you'll find the pictures as inspiring as I do. The pictures are great and the blog is really professional (I can only dream of something like that). I love her table decorations cause they look gorgeous with all the little details she always thinks of. So I decided to do one of her classics, a cake-topper,myself and once again I was surprised how something so little and made so quickly can be such a fantastic decoration. So get going an let's pimp up our cakes ;)

Materials:
2 wooden skewers
different washi tapes
thin (silver) crafting wire
a pair of scissors

Instruction:
1) Cut the wire about a hand wide longer that the diameter of your cake.
2) wind the two ends each to one (blunt) end of a skewer. twist the ends with the rest of the wire which lies in between the two skewers to secure it.
3) Cut the washi tape into stripes, double the length you want your flags to be.
4) Place the washi tape lengthwise (sticky side up) in front of you and put the wire in the middle of the tape. Stick the tape together.

5) Cut the sticked together washi tape pieces into the flag shape you want to have.
Now stick on top of your cake and invite your friends over for a spring outdoor cakefeast :)

Lace Cupcake Wrappers

Tortenspitze
Eine Schere
Klebstreifen
Cupcakes

So schnell geht's:

Geniesst eure leckeren Cupcakes!
Juna

*************************************************************************************************
I decided to make lots of individual cupcakes instead of one big cake for a birthday a while ago. So to make them look even cuter I made my own cupcake wrappers, they're done really quickly and look gorgeous...

You need:
Paperdoilies
Scissors
Scotchtape
your cupcakes

And that's how quickly it's done:
1) Cut the middle part out of the doily. So your just left with a circle of Lace.

2) Put the lace around the baked cupcake once, letting it overlap a little in the end. Cut it the length you just measured.

3) Now wrap it around the cupcake and fixate it with some very small pieces of scotchtape where the lace overlaps and you're done :)

Enjoy those yummy cupcakes!

(buntes) Seidenpapier
ein Glas
ein Bleistift
eine Schere
eine Stecknadel
kleine Holz- oder Glasperlen
dünner Basteldraht
(evt. ein Teelicht)
So wirds gebastelt:
Juna

I'm longing for spring... I'm longing for spring so badly that i made some paperblossoms today, and because I think they turned out quite beautifully here's the how-to :)

The needed materials are:
tissue Paper
a glass
a pencil
scissors
a pin
small wood or glass beads
thin craftingwire
(a tealight)
How to do it:
1) Fold the tissue paper in half as many times as you can, so your glass just fits on it.
2) Use your pencil to trace the outline of the glass and cut it out.
3) Fold all of the circles you just cut twice so you got quarters of the circle.
4) Round the edges on all your folded circles. The more those cuts differ the more interesting the shapes of your petals get.
5) Cut a piece of wire. If you just want to lay your blossoms out the wire needs to be a little bit longer than the diameter of your circle. If you wanna attach it to a jar or a glass (to use it as a nicely decorated tealightholder or a vase) the wire needs to be a bit longer as the circumference of the container.
6) thread the bead and push it to the middle of th ewire. bend the wire in half (so both ends meet) and twist the bead a couple of times to fixate it.
7) Unfold your petals and place them over each other ( I put two to three over one another to let the light shine through). Use the pin to make a hole in the middle of all your petals.
8) Put the wire with the bead on it through the hole. If you use it to decorate a jar or a glas put each wireend halfway aound it and twist the ends to keep it in place. (if it keeps slipping down use a second piece of wire which you put over the glass (see picture)). If you use your blossoms to lay on the table split the ends of the wire in opposite directions and bend them slightly upwards to give the blossom a form.
Now spread on the table and enjoy the spring feeling

Stempel selber schnitzen / Carve your own stamps

Papier
Küchenpapier
evt Küchenbrett
evt. Babyfeuchttücher zum Reinigen der Stempel

So wirds gemacht:
Viel Spass beim Stempeln
Eure Juna

As you might have noticed I love stamps to decorate all kinds of things. So a very thoughtful person gave me this awesome book for christmas. That was how I got to know the wonderful (stamp) artist Geninne D. Zlatkis. In the book she explains how she carves her own stamps, gives you tons of ideas for all kinds of creative stamp projects and you get to use her beautiful templates. You see I love the book and I find her and her Blog so inspiring, make sure to have a loo at it! And because it's so easy and so much fun I decided to share with you how to carve rubberstamps. But let me warn you it's addictive :)

For Stampcarving you need:
A pencil
A ruler
transparent paper
Erasers or for larger motives rubber carving blocks (I use the Factis printblock bought at Boesner but I only use that one cause I can't get my hands on the speedy-carve" by Speedball or the Staedtler "Mastercarve" blocks here in Switzerland...)
linoleum cutters (they,re really cheap, I bought a whole set by Abig for 5 Euros but again depending on where you live it might be easier to get your hands on the Speedballcarving tools)
(Pigment-)Inkpad( in a color differing from black)
Paper
Papertowels
evt. Cuttingboard
evt. Babywipes to clean your stamps

That's how it works:
1) Cover the surface of your erasers or your carving block completely with color from your Inkpad and let it dry for at least 15 min. This will help you in the carving process to see where you'll still have to cut away bits and pieces.
2)Draw your motive with a pencil onto the transparent paper. You don't need to be an artist to do so you can also just trace a template ;)
3) Wash your eraser or carvingblock with a little soap under running water to wash off any excessive ink. Use papertowels to dry the eraser or block completely.
4)Place your drawing face down on the block or eraser. Use the ruler to transfer the image. To do so you have to hold the paper in place while rubbing the ruler over it with pressure. remove the paper only a little at the time, still holding it in place with one hand to see if the the image has transferred nicely.
5)Before you start carving you have to decide whether you want a positive stamp or a negative stamp. If you only cut the pencillines you'll get a negative stamp. If you cut everything but the pencillines you'll get a positive stamp. As soon as you decided on that the carving can begin. It's important to always lead the knives in a way so the point away from your body so you can't cut yourself if you slip cause those cutters are really really sharp. That's also why I use a cuttingboard to lay underneath the eraser or carvingblock to protect the table. I always start by carving the outlines, it's a trick I copied from Geninne. If you want to see how she, a real pro, does it have a look at this video. But I guess it doesn't really matter how you do it as long as it suits you :)
6) When you're done carving all the details wash the stamp again under running water and wipe it dry throughly. Then the moment we've all been waiting for arrives... Ink the stamp and make your first trial impression on a piece of paper. Now you'll probably see little dots and imperfections on the impression, so grab your knife again and fix it, make another trial impression, fix some more parts... and so on. This might need a little patience but it's an important step and if you leave it out you'll regret it every time you use your stamp and don't get a perfect impression.
7) Start stamping with your finished stamp and be proud! If you wanna change the color it might be a good idea to clean your stamp with alcohol free babywipes in order to keep your inkpads clean.
Have lots of fun stamping
Your Juna

Garten im Becher / Garden in a Cup

(4 )Pappbecher
Masking Tape oder schönes Papier
Etiketten
ein Stift
Kräuter- oder Blumen Samentüten
Erde
Zellophan oder Tiefkühlbeutel
So gehts:
Viel Spass beim pflegen!
Juna

° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° °
Every now and then I need a bring-along for Dinnerparties at a friends place. So I'm always kind of on the look out for some nice little things. So when I saw this herbalgarden in cups at Ikea I thought this would be a perfect gift for hobbychefs. But as so often I didn't like the Design that much so I came up with a do-it-yourself Version of it :)
And here we go...

You'll need:
(4) Papercups
Washi Tape or beautiful paper
Labels
a Pen
bag(s) of herb or flower seeds
Earth
Cellophane bag or deepfreezing bags
That's how to do it:
1) Fill as many cups full of earth in the Cellophanebag or into the deepfreezer bag as you want decorated cups.
2) Decorate the cups with the washi tape.
3) Write the names of the flowers or herbs on the labels and stick it to the matching cup.
4) Put the bags with the seeds in the corresponding cup.
5) Write Instructions ( look at the package how deep the seeds need to be put into the earth, if you should place the cups in a sunny or a shady spot, how long they'll need to grow or how much water they need etc)
Now all it needs is some nice wrapping and you're good to go to give a friend an awesome gift.
Have fun caring for the plants!

Herzschachtel / Heartshapedbox

° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° °
The perfect way to wrap up a little something for your Valentine. And it's so quickly made :)
You'll need:
- A piece of (a bit thicker) nicely printed paper or some white paper and some washi tape
- A printer
- Scissors
- Glue
- Something to fill the box with (I'll post an idea for that tomorrow :P )
And that's how it's done:
~Print the Template on the backside of your paper. In Case you want a bigger box just use a A3 sized paper instead of a A4 one. If you use just white paper, stick the washi-tape on the backside of the paper in the area where the template is to get a nice pattern.
~Cut it out.
~Fold it along the dotted lines
~put some glue on the shaded parts and glue it together. Make sure to put the glue on the right side of the flaps, they need to go on the inside of the box in order to look nice!
~ Let dry and fill with some love :)
Have a nice time preparing for Valentines day
Your Juna
P.S. For all the singles out there, why not give a good friend a little something as a thanks-for-being-there-gift?

Masking- Washi- Textiltape selber machen / Make your own Masking- Washi- Fabrictape

So einfach wirds gemacht:

-With Love Vorlage
-Bon Appetit Vorlage
-Dreiecke Vorlage
-Blumen Vorlage

Viel spass beim Tape gestalten!
Eure Juna

°         °          °         °          °         °          °         °          °         °          °         °

The regular readers amongst you know how much I love Washi / Masking Tape. The only problem is that the great ricepapertape (ricepaper is called washi paper in japanese, that's why it's not only called masking tape but also washi tape :P ) is so damn expensive. Because I'm probably not the only crafty person who's always short of money, I looked in the blogosphere for advice and some experiments later I have sensational news: you can make your own maskingtape and it's so easy! :D
So here are the results of my experiments:

Basic procedure
you need:
- a roll of double sided scotch tape (If you can get a hold of some which has a protective film on one side, that's great cause with those it's the easiest)
- neat napkins( just take the layer where the print is on, the rest you can throw away) or some nice cotton cloth, some paper or some gift-wrapping paper... etc.
- a pair of scissors
- a long working table
and that's how easily you can do it:
Just place your napkin, paper, cloth with the left side up on the table. Stick the tape to it, smooth it and cut the excess which you stick to the next piece of tape. Trim off all the excess nicely and roll it up. string it up with a nice ribbon and you have your own homemade tape. It's really important that the protective film stays on on one side, otherwise the tape will stick to your nicely decorated side when you rolled it up :S

And now you can say piece of cake BUT....
I only have double sided tape without a protective film
That's no problem at all! Just stick one side of the tape to baking paper (or some other sort of waxpaper). That has the same effect as the protective film. Trim off the excess baking- / waypaper and decorate the other side as described above.

I couldn't get a hold of any kind of double sided tape
In this case you can use normal (not decorated) masking tape and some glue. Just stick the sticky side to waxpaper (see above) and put some glue on the other side. Stick the paper or similar ob top of the glue and trim the excess. The advantage is that you can get masking tape in many different sizes, the disadvantage is that this technique doesn't work with napkins.

I don't have any neat cloth or paper
Even for that I got a solution  Just print one of my Templates on normal, colored or transparant paper and start crafting :)
I got the following Templates for you:
And if that's still not enough just head over to the graphics fairy, she's got a ton of copyright free images which you can use to design your own Templates.
Have fun making your own Tape!

Also los geht's...

Cutter
Lineal
die ausgedruckte Vorlage
24 (Stern)kleber
ein wasserfester Filzstift
Leim

So geht's

The first of December gets closer so now's the time to get your advent calendars all set up. I already posted a couple of possibilities how to make them yourself, if you like the gift filled ones. So here's an option for those of you who prefer the ones with pictures inside. I got a way for the ones of you who like to draw a bit themselves and the ones who'd rather have one where all the artwork is already complete :) So here we go...

You'll need:
1 A4 sheet of a bit thicker paper and 1 sheet of transparent paper (or normal printer paper)
an exacto blade
a ruler
the template printed out on paper
24 (starshaped-) stickers
a pen
glue

That's how to do it:
1) Print out the Template. The first page needs to be printed on the thicker sheet of paper and the second one on the transparent one (or if you don't want to hang it up on a window to let the light shine through, just print it on normal paper).
This one is the Template for the ones of you who like to draw the pictures themselves and this one is for the ones preferring to just assemble the thing.
2) (leave out this step and go to 3) if you're just assembling). Fill the boxes on the second sheet with 24 drawings.
3) Cut all the flaps on the first page along the lines (and just the lines, one side needs to stay connected with the paper! ) using the exacto blade and the ruler.
4) Fold back the connected side of the flaps to get a nice straight cease to make it easier to open.
5) Glue the second sheet of paper behind the first one. Make sure you glue it the right way! The boxes need to match the flaps :) (Tipp: if you don't get all the pictures to match exactly behind the flaps, cut those out who don't fit exactly, leaving an edge around the picture and glue them behind the flap separately)
6) write the numbers from 1 to 24 on your stickers
7) Use the stickers to close all the flaps
Those of you who want to can glue a sheet of colored paper to the back and string a ribbon through a hole in the top of the calendar to hang it up.
And you're done :)
Happy Advent

- mind. 24 verschieden farbige A4 Papiere
- einen Locher
- Bänder
- Goldstift

So funktioniert's:

3) Jeweils 2 teile folgendermassen ineinander verflechten:
Mit einem Streifen Abeginnen. Diesen zuerst DURCH den Streifen 1 fädeln. Dann Streifen 2 DURCH streifen A fädeln.

Frohes Schenken!
Juna

°         °          °         °          °         °          °         °          °         °          °         °

For all Advent Calendar Lovers amongst you I got a second version of an heart shaped one. Jul Hjärta (swedish for christmas hearts) are used as christmas ornaments in Scandinavia. They're hung up on the tree an filled with small goodies, sounds perfect for an advent calendar to me :D I'm gonna fill mine with chocolates, what's yours gonna get filled with?

That's what you'll need:
at least 24 different colored A4 sized sheets of paper
a hole puncher
ribbons
a goldpen

That's how you do it:

(As alway you'll find the photos above :)  )
1) Print and cut or copy the template (which you get HERE). Fold the papers in the middle (short edge on short edge). Put the lower, shorter edge of the template to the fold on the paper and copy the template to your sheet of paper.

2) Clip the pieces and cut in the lines.

3) Now take two pieces and braid them the following way (take a look at the pictures for better understanding):
Begin with stripe A. Pull stripe A THROUGH stripe 1. Then pull stripe 2 THROUGH stripe A. Then pull A through number 3 and to finish 4 through A. It's really important that you braid them through each other not just above and beyond each other. cause you won't be able to open the hearts to fill them if you just put them above and beyond one another.

4) Strip B you'll braid exactly the opposite way. That means 1 through B, B through 2, 3 through B and B trough 4.

5) Stripe C you braid the same way as A and D the same way as B. Now you should be able to open up the heart at the top so it forms a bucket. If it doesn't open you didn't braid the stripes through each other but just above and beyond... :P

6) Now just punch a hole on top, lace a ribbon through the hole, put a number on it with the goldpen and fill those 24 hearts before hanging them up :)
Happy crafting

Spitzenwindlicht Version 2 / Lacylanters Version 2

For the decoration of the dinnertable I created a superquick second version of the lanterns with paperlacedoilies.
All you need is: A glass tealightholder, a tealight, washi/masking tape and paper lece doily

And that's how you do it:
Place the glass tealight holder in the middle of your paper lace doily. Fold the paperlace doily up and for the creases (no need for them to be regular!). Make sure that the paper touches the glass and fix it with the washi tape and your lanterns are finished :)
Enjoy your candlelight dinner

Schnelles Gedeck / Easy Tablesetting

Geniesst euer Essen

I like to cook for my loved ones and therefore i often give away a voucher for a homecooked meal as a birthdaygift or so. Besides the yummy food a nicely decorated table is part of the package :) So when I cooked for someone yesterday I got crafty when it came to the tablesetting/decoration... The placemat and the silverwarepocket were what it resulted in and that's how it works:

For the placemat you'll need:
construction paper in a color you like (it's easiest if it isn't too dark)
Stamps
ink pad in a color you like (or gouach or acryl color and a sponge)

Now just use your stamp to make a nice border. If you don't have an inkpad just use a sponge to put on some gouache or acryl color on the stamp.

For the silverware pocket you'll need:
Lunchbag
stamp
inkpad
Masking/ washitape
a rest of paper lace doily

Cut the top of the lunchbag to get the desired length (mine is 12cm long)
Use your stamp to add a bordure on the lower edge
Cut a piece of paper lace doily so it fits the width of your lunchbag and stick it on with the washi or maskingtape
Fill the pocket with a napkin and the silverware and your table setting is perfect :)
Enjoy your dinner

Tapetenkleister
weisses Seidenpapier
ein Ballon
ein Teelicht Glas
ein Teelicht

Modell 2: Spitze ist spitze

Das braucht ihr für Modell 2:

Tapetenkleister
Tortenspitze aus Papier
ein Ballon
ein Teelicht Glas
ein Teelicht

Modell 3 Spitzenrand

Das braucht ihr für Modell 3:

Tapetenkleister
weisses Seidenpapier
Tortenspitze aus Papier
ein Ballon
ein Teelicht Glas
ein Teelicht

So geht's:

Viel Spass beim Kleistern
Juna

°         °          °         °          °         °          °         °          °         °          °         °

I found this great idea online how you can make little lanterns out of lace. Because I didn't have any lace at hand and it's quite expensive to buy some around here i started a little experiment with paper lace doilies. Around here you can buy them to decorate cake platters. ended up with 3 kinds of lanterns, which are quickly made and are great to combine. The photos of the types can be looked at above.

You'll need:
Wallpaper paste
white tissue paper (for type 1&3)
paper lace doilies ( For type 2&3)
a ballon
a glass tealight holder ( I use the ones from Ikea)
a tealight

That's how it works:
The Beginning
1) Mix the wallpaper paste according to the instruction on the package. Lay your workplace out with a plastic( don't use papers cause they'll stick to your lantern) cause it might get a little messy :)

2) Blow up your ballon. The size of the ballon determines the size of your lantern. If you want to you can draw a line on the ballon to mark how high your lantern is gonna be. I always plaster my ballon more little more than halfway, cause that way the tealight holder will not be seen from the outside and the lantern gets a nice arching at the edge.
Put your ballon on top of a glass or a role of scotchtape ( see picture above) so it doesn't slide away while you're working on it.

The Pasting
Type 1: simple chic
Rip (do not cut your paper cause it looks completely different then)  your white tissue paper into medium size pieces. Put the wallpaper paste on one of the pieces and put it on top of the ballon. Starting on top plaster the ballon with paste dipped paper pieces until you reach the line (or are a little bit over halfway). Important is that you use little paper corners along the edge to get the scraggy look of the Edge. Glue the next layer of paper starting on top stopping a few inches from the edge. For the third layer just paste the very top of the ballon. That way the paper will show different amounts of light through.
Type 2: lace at it's best
Rip the paper lace doily into different sized pieces. Dip the first piece of doily into the wallpaper paste and place it on top of the ballon. Work your way from the top to the line (or just a bit over halfway down) by plastering more doily pieces to the ballon. It's important that the pieces overlap a little. When you reached the line which is marking your edge choose some extra nice pieces of lace and place them horizontally to get a nice edge. Plaster another layer of paper lace doily all over the ballon, the way you like it. To get an impression how it will look like when finished keep in mind that everywhere you see the color of your ballon, the light will shine through in the end.
Type 3: lacy edge
Rip your white tissue paper into medium size pieces. Rip the paper lace doily into large sized pieces. Put the wallpaper paste on one of the white tissue paper pieces and put it on top of the ballon. Starting on top plaster the ballon with paste dipped white tissue paper paper pieces until you almost reach the line (or are almost a little bit over halfway). For the lacy edge put your paper lace doily pieces  horizontally along the edge. They need to overlap the tissue paper part a little. For the next layer place your paper lace doily pieces just underneath your lacy edge and finish the layer by plastering the rest of the ballon with tissue paper pieces. If you want to you can add a third layer in the same fashion, place your new lace edge just underneath the last round of lace and plaster the rest of the ballon surface with tissue paper pieces.

The Finish
1) Let your balloons dry for at least 24 hours. They dry best in a warm place.

2) Cut of the knot of your ballon.

3) Wait until the ballon has separated from the paper. This might take a while and makes a crackling sound. Don't worry if your edges collapse along with the ballon, you can bend them back in shape as soon as the ballon is completely separated from the paper.

4) Throw away the ballon, place the tealight holder inside of your lantern, lit the tealight and be proud of your wonderful lantern :)

Happy pasting
Juna
