Orangen Zimt Valentinstagskekse / Orange Cinnamon Valentinesday Cookies

-etwa 2-3 Stunden gut Trocknen lassen

I promised you that I'd show you a little something to fill your boxes with. So Yesterday I was busy baking and decorating for you. Of course I did everything in heart shapes for Valentinesday. It might look complicated, but give it a try it really isn't!
First step is to bake some cookies. Mine are Orange-Cinnamon Cookies, but really you could use any cookie that has a even surface.

Cookie Recipe:
125g Butter
80g Sugar
2 Eggyolks --> Mix until the Mass is getting fluffy and lighter in color
A pinch of Salt
Orange peel, zested from 1 Orange
2 Teaspoons of Cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon of Vanillapaste
270g Flour --> Add to the mixture and knead to dough

Put the dough in the fridge for 1 hour.
Spread the dough to a thickness of 5 mm. And cut the cookies out in heartshapes. Put the cookies on a greased baking tray and bake depending on the size 6 to 10 min at 180° until their slightly brown.
Let the cookies cool throughly.

Royal Icing:
1 Eggwhite
500g icing sugar
1 Teaspoon of Lemon juice
Food color

Put the eggwhite, the lemonjuice and about a third of the icing sugar. Start mixing and add the rest oft the icing sugar a little at the time until the mixture looks like thick whipped cream and makes soft peaks when you push down the paddle in it.
Now divide the mixture into as many containers as you'd like to have colors. Add the foodcolor to each container and mix it throughly. Store the colors you don't need immediately in the fridge covered by a damp cloth and cling film.

Decorate the Cookies:
You'll need:
A piping bag with a small round piping nozzle or a deepfreezing bag
cooled cookies
Royal Icing in the color you want
Fill your Icing in to the Pipingbag or into the one corner of the deepfreezerbag. If you're using the deepfreezingbag cut of the very tip of the corner. Make sure you only cut a very very very small part of it cause the bigger the hole the thicker the lines.

Get your workingplace ready:
- A wipeable surface
- A Damp cloth to clean the tip of your pipingbag from time to time
- A Glass to hold your piping bag
- And the cookies
- Outline all the cookies in the backgroundcolor of your choice.
- Let dry
- Turn the rest of your background color soft peak royal icing into runny royal icing with a few drops of water. You'll find a very good guide to the consistencies of royal icing here. - Now fill the inner part of the cookies with the runny icing. It's called flooding the cookies. Make sure you get the surface covered completely but make sure to not overfill it so it doesn't overflow.
- Let dry for 2-3 hours.
- Fill the second color into your piping bag or the deepfrezing bag. Again cut the corner off the deepfreezing bag and this time make extra sure to only cut a very very small part so you'll be able to pipe thin lines.
- Now pipe your patterns on the cookies. With dots and (rounded) lines you can achieve amazing results. The ones on the photo are my first tries so it's really not that hard! If you'd like some more inspiration make sure to check out those ladies:
Cake JournalSweet Sugar Belle (and she's got a great tutorial on how to pipe lace on cookies).

Let the finished cookies dry and giftwrap them or put them in a airsealed container for a few days until you wrap them. Now have fun decorating and let's see if you get as addicted to it as I am :)
Juna
P.s. In case you have any questions don't hesitate to leave a comment and if you want to show off your cookies just add a link to the photos of your cookies. I always love to hear from you :)

Herzschachtel / Heartshapedbox

The perfect way to wrap up a little something for your Valentine. And it's so quickly made :)
You'll need:
- A piece of (a bit thicker) nicely printed paper or some white paper and some washi tape
- A printer
- Scissors
- Glue
- Something to fill the box with (I'll post an idea for that tomorrow :P )
And that's how it's done:
~Print the Template on the backside of your paper. In Case you want a bigger box just use a A3 sized paper instead of a A4 one. If you use just white paper, stick the washi-tape on the backside of the paper in the area where the template is to get a nice pattern.
~Cut it out.
~Fold it along the dotted lines
~put some glue on the shaded parts and glue it together. Make sure to put the glue on the right side of the flaps, they need to go on the inside of the box in order to look nice!
~ Let dry and fill with some love :)
Have a nice time preparing for Valentines day
Your Juna
P.S. For all the singles out there, why not give a good friend a little something as a thanks-for-being-there-gift?

So gehts:

(white) blank cards
Scissors
Glue
Pens
And that's how it's done:
1) Print (and paint) the template
2) Glue it to the colored paper and cut it out
3)Fold the wings up
4) Put some glue to the body of the butterfly and stick it on the card
5) write the cards and spread the love :)
Have fun making those butterflies fly
